Serving the Comox Valley

We say the art of veterinary medicine is the people. We mean you.

When a family walks in on one of the hardest nights of their life, you are the first person they see. While they wait, you are the one who makes sure they never feel forgotten. That is not “front desk.” That is care, and it is what makes exceptional medicine possible.

In a lot of hospitals, continuing education is for the vets and techs. Here, it is for you too. We are building a hospital where the people providing care are supported, heard and always learning.

Who we are looking for

The best care is created together.

You care about easing distress, and you are good at it. You build trust quickly, repair it when it slips, and see every interaction as a chance to learn. You might be quietly reassuring or naturally outgoing; what matters is how you listen and respond.

Emergency work means worry, hard decisions about cost, euthanasia and grief, and some nights several people will need you at once. You will have training, coaching and a team that steps in. When a conversation crosses a line, you will not be handling it alone.

Vet reception experience is great. So is healthcare, hospitality or any work where you helped people through hard moments.

The offer

Meaningful work, thoughtfully supported.

The role

  • Welcome families in person and by phone, and help them understand what happens next
  • Bring in the clinical team quickly when something cannot wait
  • Check in throughout the visit and make sure promised updates happen
  • Handle records, payments and follow-up calls
  • Keep client spaces clean, calm and welcoming
  • Help us improve how things work as we grow

What we offer

  • $22–$26 per hour, based on experience and skills
  • Health and dental benefits
  • $500 annual continuing education allowance and a paid CE day
  • Uniforms provided
  • Fewer, longer shifts, so more full days off

Medical advice stays with the clinical team. Asking instead of guessing is part of doing this job well.

As the after-hours hospital, we rotate evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, with client hours running to midnight, and to 1am on weekends.

The art of veterinary medicine

Veterinary medicine is grounded in science — but it is also an art.

  • The presence to stay steady when someone else cannot.
  • The judgment to know when something cannot wait.
  • The memory to come back to the question no one else heard.
  • The warmth to make a hard night feel a little less lonely.
Canvas is the space. Our people create what it becomes.
