Emergency medicine can feel different.

We are building Canvas because our community needs greater access to after-hours care — and because the people providing that care deserve a hospital thoughtfully designed around them.

We have worked in veterinary medicine long enough to know both what makes this profession extraordinary and what is making talented people question whether they can stay.

We know the pressure of an overflowing treatment room. The frustration of systems that make difficult work harder. And the exhaustion that comes when compassion is continually asked to compensate for insufficient support.

We also know what becomes possible when talented people have the team, tools, trust, and space to do their best work.

That is why we are building Canvas: a hospital where exceptional medicine and an exceptional team culture can thrive together.

We are creating a hospital built around team-based care, predictable schedules, shared learning, and leadership that listens. The people closest to the work will have a meaningful voice in shaping how it is done. As Canvas grows, our services will grow thoughtfully alongside case and team capacity.

Who we are looking for

The best care is created together.

We are looking for an experienced veterinarian who is confident managing urgent and emergency cases. You may already work in emergency medicine, or you may be an experienced general practitioner ready for a new chapter in urgent and emergency care.

You bring sound clinical judgement, remain grounded under pressure, and communicate with honesty and compassion. You help clients understand what is happening and guide them through uncertainty, because you know this is an essential part of excellent emergency care. You act with confidence while remaining willing to ask questions, seek another perspective, and change course when needed.

You value RVTs and the expertise of the whole veterinary team. You take ownership, follow through, and help improve the systems around you. You want to practise excellent medicine in a culture where dedication is valued, responsibility is shared, and exceptional care does not depend on unsustainable personal sacrifice.

We are also looking for someone who wants to put down roots. For the right person, ownership is a conversation we are genuinely open to after the first six to twelve months.

The art of veterinary medicine

Veterinary medicine is grounded in science — but it is also an art.

  • The judgment to find a path through uncertainty.
  • The humility to ask another question.
  • The creativity to adapt care to the patient and family in front of you.
  • The ability to bring clarity and compassion to difficult decisions — shaping not only a patient's care, but a family's experience of one of their hardest moments.
Canvas is the space. Our people will create what it becomes.
