Canvas Veterinary Centre is an independent, veterinarian-owned emergency and urgent care hospital opening in the Comox Valley — on Vancouver Island, where the mountains meet the sea and urban conveniences come with genuine small-town connection.
We say the art of veterinary medicine is the people. We mean you.
The team is still working on a critical patient. You step out to give the family the update the veterinarian asked you to share, and you tell them Biscuit has the blanket from home tucked around her, just like they said she likes. Then you step back in to help. Caring for the patient, the family and the team, all at once: that is what a great Patient Care Coordinator makes possible.
In a lot of hospitals, continuing education is for the vets and techs. Here, it is for you too. We are building a hospital where the people providing care are supported, heard and always learning.
You love helping animals and the people who love them, in equal measure. You notice the small things, build trust quickly, and see every case as a chance to learn. This role has as much client contact as patient care, and both halves matter equally.
You will care for animals who are painful, frightened or seriously ill, and you will be there for euthanasia and grief. The work is physical, and priorities change quickly. You will have training, coaching and a team that steps in, and we talk hard cases through together. When a conversation crosses a line, you will not be handling it alone.
We are looking for hands-on experience with safe handling, assisting under clinical direction, and hospital hygiene. A VA certificate or emergency experience is a real asset, but we look at your actual skills, not just a credential.
Pausing to ask when you are unsure is a skill we value.
As the after-hours hospital, we rotate evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. Overnight care for patients staying with us is part of this role. If you love overnights, tell us, because we would like those shifts to go to the people who want them.
Veterinary medicine is grounded in science — but it is also an art.
Send your résumé and a short note to hello@canvasvet.ca. Tell us about yourself, a time you cared for a patient and their person at the same time, and why Canvas caught your attention. Let us know if you would like overnights. A formal cover letter is welcome but not required.
We'll start with a phone conversation. If anything about our process would make it hard to show us your best, just let us know.
